UPCOMING EXHIBITIONS

Working quietly alongside the Sarasota Colony artists of mid-century Sarasota, Flo Singer forged a deeply personal vision shaped by European Expressionism and a life marked by travel, war, and introspection. Influenced by Schiele, Nolde, Klee, and Munch, her paintings and woodcuts pulse with spectral musicians, mysterious animals, and figures emerging from cosmic, dreamlike spaces. Music guided her hand—Bach and Mozart echoing through her Palm Avenue studio—as color and gesture intertwined in works that feel mystical, raw, and emotionally charged.

Singer’s legacy endures through the Johnson Singer Foundation, which continues to support and enrich the visual and performing arts in the region. This exhibition honors an artist whose world was one of poetry, memory, unease, and enduring creative spirit.

Joseph Arnegger (b. 1969, Boston) is an American painter whose work reflects a lifelong engagement with memory, color, and materiality. Raised on the shores of Long Island and Florida, Arnegger developed an early fascination with art and light that was deepened through his studies at Ringling School of Art and Design in Sarasota, Florida, where he was profoundly shaped by the region’s luminous atmosphere and expansive skies.

Arnegger’s paintings are composed in layered, nostalgic textures that marry imagery drawn from art history, popular culture, and personal recollection. Working on unconventional supports—found wood, industrial metals, and materials imbued with their own histories—he infuses his surfaces with patina, marks, and icons that invite viewers to linger and reconsider the familiar.

His work synthesizes elements of realism, abstraction, memory, and nostalgia into compositions that are both visually rich and emotionally resonant, demanding a second look and rewarding deeper reflection.
