502 Gallery is proud to present Interloper a vibrant watercolors produced during a residency in Lacoste, France in the Spring of 2025.

”In late February 2025, I traveled to a small city in Lacoste, France, situated in a valley adjacent to the Luberon mountain range in Provence (about a 90 minute drive west from Marseille). This was a two-month artist residency, provided by the Savannah College of Art and Design for its alumni. The studios are medieval caves (the one I worked in was originally the village’s cistern). My proposal was to work exclusively in watercolor, pushing the scale of the work as large as my space would allow, while also producing many large to modest scale works.”

502 Gallery, located in the heart of Sarasota in the Burns Court Historic District, is dedicated to showcasing dynamic exhibitions that explore the intersections of regional history, contemporary practice, and artistic collaboration.

The 502 Gallery is pleased to present a solo exhibition by Sarasota-based artist Anthony Rice, on view from January 3 through January 24, 2024. Rice is known for a multidisciplinary practice that examines identity, culture, and material through a richly layered visual language. His work draws on personal experience, historical reference, and material experimentation, resulting in compositions that invite close looking and sustained reflection.

Featuring new and recent works, the exhibition underscores Rice’s ongoing investigation into form, surface, and meaning. Bold color, tactile construction, and a strong sense of rhythm anchor the work, while subtle conceptual shifts reveal an artist continually refining and expanding his practice. Presented within the intimate setting of the 502 Gallery, this exhibition offers audiences an opportunity to engage deeply with Rice’s thoughtful, evolving body of work and his distinct contribution to Sarasota’s contemporary art landscape.
