emma varga
Emma Varga is a Serbian-born, Australian-based glass artist internationally known for her intricate, large-scale cast glass sculptures. Educated at the University of Applied Arts in Belgrade, where she earned her degree in industrial design in 1975, Varga has spent decades pushing the technical and conceptual boundaries of kiln-formed glass.
Her distinctive layered technique—building up thousands of individually cut and colored glass pieces—creates richly dimensional forms that often explore themes of nature, memory, fragility, and environmental change. Much of her recent work reflects a deep concern for endangered ecosystems and the delicate balance of the natural world, making her process both meditative and purpose-driven.
Varga’s work has been exhibited extensively across Europe, Asia, Australia, and the United States, and is held in prominent museum and private collections worldwide. Through her use of vibrant color, transparency, and spatial depth, she transforms glass into a poetic medium for reflection on time, place, and the interconnectedness of life.
