Sorcha Augustine

Sorcha Augustine is a dance and theatre photographer from Sarasota, FL. She creates dynamic stage and promotional photography for dance and theatre companies as well as authentic portraiture of performing and visual artists, helping them promote their skill, personality, and passion. Augustine is best known in the Florida Gulfcoast for her work with Sarasota Contemporary Dance and Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe, however her following continues to grow nationally. She was the first woman in history to hold an official photographer’s badge at the Blackpool Dance Festival in England, the world’s oldest and most prestigious ballroom competition (est. in 1920). Recently she was a guest artist at the 2024 National YoungArts Week in Miami.

Sorcha's work with dancers over the last 15 years centers around the energy and spiritual experience of the subject as they are caught up in the movement, with more emphasis on the gesture, rather than “the lines of the pose.” Her stage photography has been identified as “electric” and “awake” as if the viewer can feel the gesture themselves.
